Filing accurate paper as a member is critical. It helps us understand the growth of our tribe, assists us in applying for grants for the nation, while keeping our records up to date. We recommend all critical legal paperwork be sent into the tribe as close to the life event as possible.
Marriage Licenses:
Upon marriage license receipt, we need a copy sent in immediately. Treating it as if you would the DMV. If your license changes, your name needs to be changed on file with the enrollment office to register the name change legally on your membership account. For example, a maiden name change, needs to be updated on tribal benefit checks, ballot addresses, and updated newsletters on critical tribal updates. It is important to have the name change registered immediately to prevent members having hindrances to getting what is theirs. Additionally, it allows us to keep up to date records on tribal family trees and expansion of families amongst our tribe.
Addresses Changes:
As best practices, it is advised the moment you become aware of your address change, to immediately contact the office. The office currently has 630 members, who are not receiving their relevant correspondence due to an old address. An outdated address affects multiple aspects of a member including but not limited to: Benefits, enrollment, tribal communications, voting, newsletters. Important: It’s important to note that the official voter’s list has already been submitted for the upcoming election. Any address updates from tribal members processed now, are required to also officially request their own ballot.
Death Certificates:
In order for the office to accurately track the generations and tribal records of our members' life span, it is advised that members send their death certificates within 7 days of the funeral. It is important for gaining aid, assisting relatives in tracking their families’ history and location of their passing, while helping to honor their legacy.
Birth certificates:
In order for the office to accurately track the generations and live births of new members, it is advised that members send in birth certificates within 7 days of live birth. It is critical for enrollment to have their birth certificate on file, and to file their date of birth for future historical records.
The process:
The office will receive the documentation, once your documentation has been sent in, a copy of the legal document will be made. The paperwork is then immediately stored on the members unique and specific file, and all originals will be returned to the owner. If they have any questions, email Leslie McCoy or call the office at 918- 787-5452. Ext 6027
