Can you give a brief overview of the counseling and treatment services available to tribal members?
The counseling department provides outpatient counseling services. Some of the services provided are substance use treatments for individuals and families. The department also provides grief, depression, anxiety, and trauma counseling as part of mental health services.
How does a member access services — is there an intake or assessment process?
Members can access our services by contacting the counseling department and scheduling an appointment. The intake process is the first step that leads to scheduling an appointment for a formal assessment. Our phone number: (918) 791-6045; (918) 791-6046.
Are counseling services truly free to all Native Americans with tribal membership verification?
Our counseling services are available and completely free of charge to all Native Americans with tribal membership verification.
What prevention programs are currently active — particularly around youth education and tobacco cessation?
The department provides substance use prevention education, including DUI prevention education for teens, suicide prevention training, and grief education. The prevention education programs are open to the community, institutions, individuals, and families.
Are there any new programs, developments, or expanded services members should know about?
The counseling department investigates potential grants that will support our community. Our most recent addition has been the Tribal Opioid Response grant (TOR). TOR creates an opportunity for those struggling with opioids to enter residential treatment to overcome opioid addiction. Through this grant, we are also able to train the use of Narcan as well as provide individuals with their own box to keep on the go.
What's one thing you wish every tribal member knew about the support available through your department?
There are a couple of useful things to keep in mind. We are collaborative. If we are unable to find a solution within our resources, we will help search among our neighboring tribes and communities to meet your needs. Additionally, we do reserve space for a grief support group. Our doors are open to the public from 12:00pm – 1:00pm in our family room. For more information, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
How do members access these services?
